A recent study by behavioral economists at University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Business School found that people tend to make resolutions and set new goals during the turn of the year because of “the fresh start effect.” However most resolutions fail because this burst of enthusiasm and optimism, which also occur during the start of a new month or a new week, peters out soon after. Clinical psychologist Alex Lui explains why.
