Recent reports of an Indian biotech company's plans to set up laboratories for testing dogs and primates in Malacca has sent animals rights groups into a fury. This RM450 million joint-venture deal will see trial medicines being tested on these animals.
Is testing on animals justified, if it can provide human beings with safe medication and products? SPCA Selangor's Chairperson Christine Chin believes that animal testing is not the only solution, citing examples of the inaccuracy of animal testing in many cases, and elaborates further on how there is insufficient efforts being made towards looking for alternative methods of testing.
She also outlines the SPCA's both sole and joint efforts with other organisations in opposing the plans for the setup of this testing laboratory, and how concerned citizens who also oppose this should make their voices heard.
