The ritual of reading the morning paper and watching the evening news is fast becoming obsolete. As the often repeated Gen-Y saying goes: “If the news is important enough, it will find me.” On the other hand, the Boston Marathon Bombings in April this year was the first time a major tragedy unfolded in the social media era, leading to misidentified suspects, amateur witch hunts and heightened panic based on unsubstantiated rumors.
