In this eight-part series with the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia, better known as SUHAKAM, we speak to commissioners about the work they do, why they are passionate about human rights, and what they hope to achieve during their term. This week, Jerald Joseph talks to us about migrant workers rights and how it fits within the larger issue of discrimination in the country.
Jerald Joseph earned his Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Chemistry from University Science Malaysia, and then his Masters in Human Rights from Mahidol University, Thailand. He was one of the senior civil society members who led the Malaysian NGOs’ reporting to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group in Geneva and had engaged with key stakeholders during Malaysia’s previous UPR process. He was appointed as a Commissioner in June 2016.
