Target 5.3 of the Sustainable Development Goals aims to end child marriage by 2030. Globally though, vulnerable and marginalized girls and women continue to bear the health risks and social and economic costs of early and forced marriage, non-consensual sex and early pregnancies. Sisters in Islam (SIS) and the Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women (ARROW) collaborated on a report titled "Child Marriage: Its Relationship with Religion, Culture and Patriarchy", which focuses on child marriage specifically in Malaysia. We discuss the findings of the report with Sivananthi Thanenthiran, the Executive Director of ARROW and Shareena Sheriff, the Program Manager of the Sisters in Islam (SIS).
