Last month, Deputy Education Minister Datuk P Kamalanathan launched the Global School Leaders Malaysia programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Idaman. The two-year pilot initiative involves 75 school administrators - headmasters, principals and senior assistants - from 24 schools across primary and secondary levels in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
This programme is modeled after the India School Leaders Institute, which in turn is based on research showing that effective school leaders lead to better learning outcome for students. In this interview that was originally broadcasted in June 2017, Global School Leaders co-founder Sameer Sampat explains the curriculum and the challenges of taking this model abroad. Also on the show is Cheryl Ann Fernando, a Teach for Malaysia alumna who is spearheading the programme here in Malaysia. She tells us why she is confident this is something that can work in the Malaysian context.
