Initially, women diagnosed with breast cancer tend to fall into two groups. The first raid libraries, the internet and bookstores, devouring information about the illness, and end up better informed than some doctors. Others can hardly bear to look at the cover of a book with the words "breast" and "cancer" on it. This stage doesn't always last, though, and most women who have had the illness can name at least one book that has helped them through.
