Astronomy & Astrophotography: The Importance of Stargazing

Carl Sagan, the late astronomer, astrophysicist and science popularizer stated that “We live in a society absolutely dependent on science and technology and yet have cleverly arranged things so that almost no one understands science and technology. That's a clear prescription for disaster.” Should we leave the realm of science to the men in lab coats, or is it important for us to explore the universe beyond our atmosphere?
