Originally created to cater to the needa of pupils who were not educated in the language that served as the medium of teaching, remove classes are supposed to be a transition class for pupils to familiarise themselves with Bahasa Malaysia (and in the past, English) as a medium of instruction. However, there are questions being asked now about the efficacy and structure of the remove classes.
Shanti Periasamy, convenor of the 'Revamp the Remove Classes' initiative and SP Nathan, vice president of the Educaton Welfare Research Foundation, tell us more.
