Synaesthetes live in a world where violins sound like honey, pink represents a high C and the number nine is hostile. Caused by neural cross-talk in the brain, synaesthesia is a colourful, fascinating condition. But as normalcy is such a subjective term, and no one ever knows what it's like to walk in someone else's shoes, many synaesthetes don't even know that they have a special condition much less that not everyone sees the world the way they do.
Psychological researcher, Valentine Cawley, explains why he's seeking out synaesthetes and why they may represent a new group of giftedness.
