Traditionally, most expecting mothers know that quite a battery of tests will be coming their way, ranging from HIV tests to ultrasounds. However, for mothers who are facing a high-risk pregnancy or who just want to make sure everything is okay, there are other tests are available. The second and third trimesters have always been assumed to be when more care needs to be given to mother and baby alike.
Dr. Wong Yeng Wee, molecular biologist, describes some of the tests that can now definitively be done in the first trimester to put minds at ease and argues for a reversal of the focus on the second and third trimesters.
