While vapes and e-cigarettes were initially marketed as a potentially safer alternative to traditional tobacco smoking, vaping has given rise to a new and concerning public health issue: nicotine addiction. Countries around the world are now grappling with a vaping crisis among children and young people, due to the easy ways young people can lay their hands on vape products, even those containing nicotine.
While several key politicians are taking sides on the issue of whether the Generational Endgame Bill is unconstitutional, on the show, we’re looking at the rise of nicotine addiction among first-time vape users, and the challenges of addressing vape addiction from a medical and social perspective. Prof Chris Bullen, President, Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco; and Assoc Prof Dr Amer Siddiq, Consultant Psychiatrist and Chief Coordinator, UM Centre for Addiction Sciences, join us for this discussion.
