Sarah Ann Chou, Clinical Psychologist and Mental Health Activity Manager, Médecins Sans Frontières
The Bigger Picture · Health & Living · 19 Nov 2024 · 46 mins listen
Refugees are often at higher risk of developing mental health issues, because of the often traumatic experiences they’ve had fleeing their home country. But their struggles don’t end once they make it to a host country, especially as we see rising xenophobia and policies that aren’t friendly to refugees, as we’ve seen here in Malaysia. So how do all of these circumstances impact their mental health? And what can be done to help refugee communities here? Joining us is Sarah Ann Chou, clinical psychologist and mental health activity manager with MSF, also known as Doctors Without Borders. She’s here to share more about that and the work that MSF is doing to provide psychosocial support to refugee communities here.
