Building upon the foundation established by the traditional shadow theatre of Southeast Asia, Taikuh Jikang from Japan creates a new type of live shadow performance involving body movements accompanied by music from instruments like gamelan, Kendang Sunda (Sundanese barrel drums), violin, bass, Javanese vocals as well as Japanese elements.
Helping us understand what the performance is all about is Aki Uehara, the producer and project manager of the show and Mio Yachita, the Head of the Cultural Affairs Department at the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur.
