One of Kelantan’s oldest living theatrical traditions, Main Puteri is a ritual that encompasses aspects of dance, drama and music, and is used principally for purposes of therapy and healing.
Eddin Khoo of Pusaka, the Centre for the Study and Documentation of Traditional Performance in Malaysia, gives a rundown of Main Puteri, and plugs the performance by The Kumpulan Main Puteri Pusaka.
Also speaking about their personal encounters with traditional performances are students Shahrizuan Shahruddin and Tania Prabha, who are interning with Pusaka to research and study these dying traditional art forms.
