Prof Tham Siew Yean is a professor in international trade and a principal research fellow at the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She has research interests and publications in foreign direct investment, economic integration and trade in services.
In the interview, Prof Tham examines the trade's contributions to growth in Malaysia, current challenges confronting the international trade of Malaysia, and the sort of policies should Malaysia pursue to harness trade. She also dicusses the impact of FTAs and open trade with ASEAN, as well as her thoughts on how Malaysia can make that jump from a 'factory economy' to a 'headquarter economy'
