Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman (November 4th, 1915 - August 2th, 1973) was the second Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, who served from 1970 until his death in 1973. He was one of the key natinal figures in Malaysia's struggle for independence, along with Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Abdul Razak, Tun Hussein Onn and Datuk Onn Jaafar, among others.
Known as the 'reluctant politician', Tun Dr Ismail's sense of public duty helped hold the nation together during its most troubled times, and in doing that,
had lost his life for his country. His eldest son, Mohamed Tawfik bin Tun Dr Ismail, shares with us his touching memories of his father and the crucial role that Tun Dr Ismail played in the birth of Malaysian politics.
