Dr Jonathan Dorfan, the president of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, talks about the interdisciplinary approach in teaching science to nurture a new breed of researchers who can connect the dots between different aspects of science. This newest graduate university in Japan received generous funding from the government, has five Nobel Laureates on its board of governors and unlike other universities in the country, it intends to have a 50:50 mix of Japanese and non-Japanese among its PhD students and academicians.
