Top 5 At 5: MRT 3 Comes Full Circle

Stories we covered today:

1. Our top story: The MRT 3 Circle Line project is back in the news with a new alignment map for public review, after being previously dropped. We talk to Zac Cheong from TRANSIT Malaysia about the importance of the circle line and improving public transport.

2. Abandoned vehicles are causing Kuala Lumpur to lose millions and occupy 10-15% of parking spots in government housing areas. Rajiv Rishyakaran, Bukit Gasing state assemblyman, discusses solutions to this problem.

3. DBKL has approved a new high-rise development in Taman Desa, raising concerns among residents about its impact on the neighborhood. We reached out to Tan Booi Charn from Kuala Lumpur Residents' Association Plus Sustainable Development for comment.

4. Penang is exploring the idea of creating a solar farm to generate renewable energy for cruise ships, as part of a move to make Penang Port appealing to international cruise lines. We reached out to Adrian Lasimbang, Founder of TONIBUNG and director of community development and regenerative farming at VERDE Resources on his thoughts about floating solar farms as a solution for renewable energy.

5. Brazil’s supreme court has banned X after Elon Musk refused to comply with local laws. We spoke to Terry Flew, Professor of Digital Communication and Culture at the University of Sydney on this incident with X and how misinformation on social media platforms can be better regulated.
