According to the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Japan and Singapore are likely to have the oldest population by 2030. And in Malaysia, it is estimated that by 2020, 3.4 million Malaysians will be over the age of 65 - that accounts for 10% of the population. Is Malaysia ready for an ageing population? Is the country equipped with aged care infrastructure? Will our children take care of us when it’s our turn to reach that elderly bracket? There are many questions to explore when we stop to think about old age but the one ultimate question we’re asking today is: are children responsible for taking care of their parents in their old age?
