The Star online reported MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has called on shoppers to boycott shopping malls that failed to provide adequate safety features to protect its customers.
He says that the police cannot be everywhere all the time,” and that it is the responsibility of the shopping malls to strengthen their security features.
While no one would argue that people should stay away from shopping malls that are prone to crime, is it a fair for shopping malls and traders to be boycotted due to the lack of adequate security features?
Security features after all comes in all shapes and sizes but one thing is for sure: they will cost a lot of money!
The president of the Malaysian Association for Shopping and Highrise Complex Management H.C. Chan said that on a recent visit to Australia, he was surprised to discover that they only needed 15 security personnel for a shopping mall that is larger than KL’s MidValley Megamall. This was reported in The Malaysian Insider on 13 August.
He said: “A similar-size mall in Malaysia would have 10 times more security guards.”
Would increasing the number of security features in shopping malls effectively eliminate crime from being committed in shopping malls?
Do you pay attention to the amount of security features of the shopping malls you visit?
Would you boycott a shopping mall that you deem as having inadequate security features?
