Our resident literary critic goes to Colombia for Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s ‘Love in the Time of Cholera’. Love is compared to an illness that Malaysians at one time feared and rightly so. (Now only about 150 people annually are diagnosed with that disease. No deaths.) While issues of love are in the novel’s foreground, related issues of aging, death and suffering lie just a step behind.
