We speak to Andrew Tan, Asia Lead for Social Innovation Camp & Tan Li Szu, Asia Co-Lead for Social Innovation Camp.Social Innovation (SI) Camp helps catalyst and start technology-based social ventures. It accomplishes this by matching experts of a social problem to solution enablers, such as software developers, designers and business-minded folks. The aim? To build technology-based solutions to social problems, from hacking together the software to working out how to sustain an idea – all in under 48 hours. Though the culmination of the program is the 48 hours, there is a lot more to it than that. Before the weekend there are 2 main phases: 'Call for ideas' and 'Team building'. In the 'Call for ideas' phase, we reach out to the local community, NGOs, basically anyone that deals/comes into contact with social issues and might have an idea or problem that can leverage on internet and/or mobile technology to help solve it. Next we will select 6 ideas to go into the weekend but before the weekend we will build teams around these ideas so when the weekend comes teams can just focus on building. Post weekend we will continue to provide support to teams that wants to try to make their idea a venture.
