In November 2014, the Malaysian government has selected four universities and one polytechnic for the first phase of the “Big Data” competency centre development. Launched by Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, the second education minister, with hopes that it would produce more experts in scientific data, data modeling, data analysis and data mining. Prestariang will be centre operator and the training provider and also engage in career placement for the pool of Big Data trained students. Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid, Vice Chancellor for University Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering (UniMY) elaborates.
