Built in 1926, in the Chow Kit sub-district, Rumah Degil - which used stronghold Mandailing community - has seen and been through it all. The Japanese occupation, end of WW2, the rise of the communist insurgency, the independence of Malaysia, racial riots of May 13, to name a few. With such heritage and history attached to the site, it was such a shame that it was dismantled and torn-down earlier this year. But as luck would have it, the project Rumah Pusaka Chow Kit aims to not just rebuild the house with its original components but to make it more than a historical monument.
