While there are more than 7,000 types of rare diseases, they affect a small percentage of the world’s population. But people who are affected often face life-threatening and chronic conditions. Additionally, there are virtually no cures for rare diseases, and the majority of them don’t even have treatments. With the number of these diseases growing, we look at how public policy measures and funding can better help the rare disease community and how it might increase access to treatment.
