Violence in Rakhine State which began on 25 August 2017 has driven an estimated 621,000 Rohingya across the border into Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The United Nations rights body have called it “a textbook example of ethnic cleansing” and the speed and scale of the influx has resulted in a critical humanitarian emergency. Yante Ismail, the External Relations Officer at The United Nations High Commission For Refugees (UNHCR) in Malaysia, has recently returned from her deployment at Cox's Bazaar and just ahead of Human Rights Day, she joins us to share her experiences of being there, and also to recount the stories she heard from the Rohingya community themselves.
