Why Do Dynasties Dominate Indian Politics?

Patrick French, Author, "India: A Portrait"

15-May-14 15:00

The results of the Indian elections will be out tomorrow, with Narenda Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Arvind Kejriwal of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) poised to be the biggest winners. Both candidates are considered outsiders, anti-establishment and, most importantly, not affiliated with any political family, unlike Rahul Gandhi of the powerful Nehru-Gandhi family. Are Indian voters turning their back on political dynasties for good? Journalist and author of “India: A Portrait” Patrick French gives us his take.
