A volunteering stint at a special school in England, where he first encountered children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, led Professor Tony Attwood to dedicate his life studying and understanding the condition. Almost five decades later, Attwood is today one of the foremost expert on Asperger's Syndrome. In a documentary on ABC’s Australian Story that premiered last month, Attwood revealed how it took him more than 30 years before noticing symptoms of Asperger’s in his son. We caught up with Professor Atwood during his visit to Kuala Lumpur for a chat about how much we still don’t know about Asperger’s and where the research on Autism Spectrum Disorder is heading.
