Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump announced that America recognises Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and will move the American embassy there. Why was this decision greeted with dismay and disbelief by the international community? In this interview that was originally broadcasted on February 28th, Saul Takahashi gives us some context to this incredulity by describing what daily life is like in the occupied Palestinian territories, and how the presence of Jewish settlements is a constant reminder of Israel’s violation of international law. Takahashi is the former Deputy Head of Office at the Office of the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights, which is based in Ramallah, in the heart of the West Bank.
