In 2013, 4,123 cases of domestic abuse were reported, and 39 percent of women are estimated to have been abused by their partners and a large number of these cases go unreported due to reasons such as fear of retaliation. Furthermore, Malaysia's domestic violence laws do not cover abuses that take place between unmarried couples. Betty Yeoh, Project Director at the All Women's Action Society (AWAM), explains what can be done to improve the situation.
