Last month, the education ministry called for the streaming system in schools to be abolished across the country. Many among the public expressed concern that not grouping students according to academic ability might impede the development of students, especially accelerated learners. The National Early Childhood Intervention Council (NECIC), however, commended the government’s position for promoting inclusive education for all children. NECIC President Dr Wong Woan Yiing and Project Officer Ng Lai Thin explain how three decades’ worth of research favors an inclusive learning environment over an elitist one.
