Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a rare genetic condition that causes progressive muscle weakness. Joining neurogeneticist Dr Azlina Ahmad Annuar for her monthly series are two individuals, each with very personal experiences with SMA. Yap Sook Yee has a 9-year-old son with SMA, while Shahratul Azmah Shamsudin (Kak Sha) has an adult daughter with SMA and another daughter who passed away from the same disease. They attended the CureSMA conference in the US recently and share their findings on how to improve SMA care and support in Malaysia.
