"It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest," said famed British naturalist and documentary filmmaker Sir David Attenborough.

And yet if often is the case that environmental news only makes the headlines, in the wake of disasters such as the recent mudslides in Cameron Highlands. For journalists covering the nature beat, keeping news on the environment in the forefront of the public consciousness, can be a difficult proposition.

Datuk Karam Singh Walia and Tan Su Lin, two journalists who have received awards for their reporting on environmental issues, reflect on their experiences, including the challenges they face in bringing such topics to public attention.
