In the past, the Malaysia Schools Sports Council (MSSM) hockey meet would be widely publicised. Talents from such competitions will eventually graduate to the national team. These days, little is heard about the national-level school tournament. Also in question is the standard of play as the national men's and women's teams are still struggling in the international arena and face an uphill battle in the Asian Games.
