The curtains closed on the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta yesterday, with the chair, Indonesia, calling on world leaders to defuse tensions. The summit this time has been overshadowed by renewed disputes over the South China Sea and ASEAN’s failure to make progress on resolving the Myanmar crisis.
