Said Zahari passed way yesterday at 88 years old. The former Utusan Melayu Chief Editor was a staunch advocate of press freedom and led the strike against UMNO's takeover of the newspaper in 1961. Detained without trail by the People’s Action Party for 17 years Said emerged to pen his memoirs “Dark Clouds at Dawn” and “The Long Nightmare” which recounts the extraordinary periods of solitary confinement that he suffered. This morning we ask if his legacy is genuinely understood.
