Top 5 at 5: Why Malaysia Needs the Climate Change Act Now

The proposed Rang Undang-Undang Perubahan Iklim Negara, or Climate Change Act, aims to hold polluters accountable and prioritize people’s well-being over corporate profits. The problem is, it's been in limbo for years. With Malaysia chairing ASEAN next year, Aroe Ajoeni from Klima Action Malaysia (KAMY) explains why this bill is critical to addressing the climate crisis.

Other stories we covered today:

· Malaysia joins BRICS: Malaysia has been added as a partner country to BRICS, a significant development alongside Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Yanitha Meena, an analyst from ISIS Malaysia and Yin Shao Loong, Deputy Director of Research from Khazanah Research Institute weigh in on what this new status means for Malaysia’s role in the global economy.

· Road accidents claim 800 young lives in 9 months: With 70% of road accident deaths involving young people, road safety in Malaysia is a growing concern. Associate Professor Law Teik Hwa from UPM’s Road Safety Research Center discusses the causes behind this alarming trend and the efforts to reduce these fatalities.
