Top 5 At 5: Radio, What's New?

Stories we covered today:

1. Our top story: With Radiodays Asia 2024 not far away, we explore the ever-evolving nature of radio, as well as its relevance in this age. Steve Ahern, Radiodays Asia speaker and organiser of the Asia Podcast Awards as well as publisher of Radioinfo, joins the conversation.

2. In the latest episode of the 1MDB saga, the Swiss Federal Criminal Court has convicted two PetroSaudi executives for embezzling US$1.8 billion from the 1MDB investment fund. We asked Cynthia Gabriel, former executive director of the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) about the significance of this development. We also hear from Raymon Ram on key lessons to be learned from this scandal.

3. Another sinkhole has emerged on Jalan Masjid India a mere 50 metres from the site of the sinkhole incident that caused the tragic disappearance of Vijayalakshmi, an Indian tourist who remains missing. We hear from Camelia May Li Kusumo, an Associate Professor from the School of Architecture, Building and Design at Taylor's University on how we can improve KL’s urban resilience.

4. Amendments to the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code now means that travellers will get better protection. This includes being refunded for flights delayed more than five hours, as well as being notified of changes to a flight’s scheduled departure time. Transport lawyer Matthew Jerome van Huizen shares his thoughts on this new amendment.

5. A month after its shock election result, France’s political deadlock became even more complicated when French President Emmanuel Macron rejected the New Popular Front prime ministerial nominee Lucie Castets. Arnaud Bertrand, a commentator on economic and geopolitical matters, weighs in on the situation.
