Dr Vilashini Somiah, Anthropologist
Evening Edition · Inside Story · 31 Jan 2024 · 06:00 pm · 1 hour 2 mins listen
Unity has been the aspiration of Malaysians since independence, and it's been spoken time and time again that Sabah and Sarawak should be seen as beacons of racial unity. We speak to anthropologist, Dr. Vilashini Somiah, to interrogate this idea, and to ask what is the downside to this caricature, and what a better model of unity might look like if it goes beyond assimilation and peaceful co-existence.
