It's been 30 years since the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (or UNCAT for short) came into effect. This international human rights treaty has 32 nations that have yet to ratify the convention, and Malaysia is one of them. We caught up with Abdel Wahab Hani, UNCAT committee member, to discuss the need and importance for UN member states to acknowledge this treaty, and where Malaysia stands in all of this.
