Female candidates only make up 12% of the candidates running in the upcoming state election, i.e 71 out of 570; woefully far from the recommended 30% quote for representation. We look at what these numbers indicate about our political parties and their commitment to gender parity, and whether there should be a quota in place for female candidates.
