Khairul Hizam Harun used to work for an NGO teaching art to underprivileged kids. As with most charitable efforts however, funding was never reliable. So he went in search of a better, more sustainable model - today he heads Karya, a social enterprise that funds art lessons for children in shelter homes, through private art classes, that people pay for. All the funds they make get ploughed back into the organisation. We speak to Khairul about this approach, and how well it’s been working since he started it up last year.
