Maus (1991), a graphic novel, deals with Art Spiegelman's (the writer-artist) retelling of his father’s memories of his World War 2 experiences, with characters depicted as animals. Different races are represented by different species. Beyond being a critique of the war, this graphic novel is a criticism of race: the absurdity of differentiating people along racial lines. Maus has been published in about 30 languages.
