As Gen Z enters the workforce in increasing numbers, they bring fresh perspectives, bold expectations, and a willingness to challenge traditional norms. In Malaysia, Gen Z — those born between 1997 and 2012 — makes up approximately 26% (according to a Nielsen study back in 2019) of the population and represents the fastest-growing segment of the workforce, with a notable year-on-year increase of 50% since 2020. According to a Willis Towers Watson (WTW) survey in January this year, Millennials and Gen Z together are expected to constitute over 70% of the nation's workforce by 2025.
From their emphasis on mental health and work-life balance to their preference for transparent communication and a flat hierarchy, Gen Z is reshaping the workplace landscape.
