安华任首相期间在性别议题上似乎偏向保守，也有人批评是在「竞争保守」，摊开这段时间的争议事件：例如the 1975乐团遭列黑名单，没收SWATCH手表，甚至是在大学制定男女分开座的政策；导致很多年轻支持者都对安华的政策感到疑惑，大家有不少的疑惑，到底这些举动是在竞争保守还是安华本身就是保守的。
