Third Culture Kids

Sociologist and anthropologist Dr. Ruth Hill Useem first coined the term "third culture kids" in the 1950s to describe a person who has spent a significant part of his or her developmental years outside the parent's culture. A third culture kid absorbs and assimilates into cultures without having full ownership of any. We speak to Assistant Professor of Education Dr. Lucy Bailey about the challenges, advantages and unique experiences of these children in forging their own cultural identities.
