In conjunction with Merdeka & Malaysia Day 2010, BFM is collaborating with the online news site, The Nut Graph, to bring you stories about Malaysians, celebrating their diverse and colourful heritage.

Environmental activist Gurmit Singh was a student leader and the secretary-general of the National Human Rights Society of Malaysia (Hakam). Since 1974, he has been heavily involved in environmental advocacy.

Currently chairperson of the Centre for Environment, Technology and Development Malaysia (Cetdem), Gurmit joins us to talk about his past and present life, and his hopes for Malaysia in the future.
