Air Defense Identification Zone (A.D.I.Z.) and Territorial Disputes

China’s recent proclamation of an Air Defense Identification Zone, or A.D.I.Z., escalated military tensions with Japan and the United States. While there is no international regulatory body monitoring who has the right to fly where, the A.D.I.Z. concept originated during World War II and has factored into territorial disputes ever since. Foreign policy expert Elina Noor tells us more.
