Trump Declares Shocking Gaza Takeover Plan
US President Donald Trump's plan to take over Gaza has sparked widespread condemnation, with global citizens, experts and leaders accusing Trump of promoting ethnic cleansing and describing the plan as "insane".
Palestinian resistance group Hamas says the plan is a recipe to create chaos and tension in the region, adding that Gaza residents will not allow such plans to pass.
"What is required is an end to the occupation and aggression against our people, not their expulsion from their land... They are rooted in their land and will not accept any schemes aimed at uprooting them from their homeland," the group said.
“Trump is essentially saying that US policy now is to destroy the Palestinian society, scatter Palestinians to neighbouring countries, and on top of that, for the US to come and own Palestinian territory indefinitely... I don’t know what planet we are living on where these statements are coming out of the president of the United States,” political analyst and human rights advocate Omar Baddar told Al Jazeera.
Rashida Tlaib, the sole Palestinian member of the US Congress, accused Trump of “openly calling for ethnic cleansing while sitting next to a genocidal war criminal.”
"Gaza is not a real estate development project for the United States government to own or take over. Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people," said Palestinian-American Ahmed Fouad Alkhatib, a resident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council.
In his announcement to take over the Gaza Strip, Trump proposed that millions of Palestinians living there should relocate to neighbouring countries like Jordan and Egypt.
Previously, several Arab nations including Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, had released a joint statement rejecting Trump's plans to relocate Palestinians, warning that it would threaten the region's stability.
